Fire It Up! Annual BBQ Competition Returns!
Calling all BBQ buffs, grill masters, and weekend chefs— The Reccas beloved Annual Cook-Off is back on Sunday, June 15, and it's shaping up to be a smokin’ good time!
Bring your appetite and your A-game to Kurnell as we gather for a fun-filled day of sizzling competition, tasty creations, and community spirit.
Everyone will be given pork ribs (supplied by the club) to prepare in their own bold and creative way—plus, you can bring along one protein of your choice to really show off your signature style. And don’t forget a side dish to complete your plate!
Judging kicks off at 1:00 PM sharp with a panel featuring a celebrity guest and a local legend, scoring entries on taste, texture, and creativity. Charcoal grills only, but you’re welcome to use electric tools for prep.
Contact The Reccas to claim your entry spot!
Cronulla Mall Upgrade continues!
Exciting changes are coming to Cronulla Mall!
Sutherland Shire Council has kicked off the next stage of the plaza upgrade at the northern end, with works set to wrap up by late 2026 (weather permitting).
This stage will feature a brand-new town square with upgraded paving, lighting, and plenty of seating to relax and enjoy the space.
There’ll also be two fun destination playgrounds, a fresh performance area, more trees, and new public toilets.
The current amphitheatre and amenities will make way for these improvements, all aimed at creating a safe, welcoming spot to shop, stroll, and catch up with friends.
Construction hours are Monday to Friday, 7am–6pm, and some Saturdays. No work will happen over December 2025–January 2026 or on public holidays. Occasional after-hours work may occur, but locals will be kept in the loop.
Did You Forget Something in your Uber?
Ever left something behind in an Uber? You’re not alone—and chances are, your forgotten item wasn’t quite as unusual as some of these.
Uber’s annual Lost & Found Index has dropped, and it’s a treasure trove of weird, wonderful, and “wait, what?!” items Aussies have left behind.
Among the quirkiest: a Steve Irwin action figure, $1200 worth of meat raffle winnings, an Esky full of seafood, a cooked chicken, a sword, a puppy (!), and even $500 worth of live exotic fish. One rider managed to part ways with a suspicious number of belts, while another left behind a lightsaber and a box of Christmas lights with $1500 cash inside.
Of course, it’s not all bizarre. Phones, wallets, keys, luggage and clothing remain the most commonly forgotten items. But forgetfulness patterns vary: hats vanish on Mondays, AirPods on Thursdays, and phones tend to disappear on weekends—especially during the morning rush or around 2am after a big night out.
Sydney was crowned the most forgetful city in Australia, with Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane following closely behind.
So, next time you hop out of your ride, maybe double-check for your phone… and your puppy.
