Wow, so many new faces here. Welcome each and every one of you to The Shire Insider, the newsletter that shares fun events and highlights local businesses.

We’ve started receiving feedback on some of our newsletters and are curious to hear from more of you.

In order to make this newsletter the best it can be, we want to know what you enjoy reading most about.

🐄 Looking for a local farmer?

We love shopping local, but can’t seem to find any farms in the Shire….. The next best thing? Farmer To Fridge. It’s an online platform connecting small family farms and consumers.

We’ve been buying from them for over a year now because the meat is amazing and it’s a great option to support farmers directly.

From the main page (here) pop in your postcode to see what farms deliver to you and go shopping.

You can choose smaller “Try & See” mystery boxes (about 5kg of meat) to get a taste of the deliciousness, or order custom bulk boxes of steaks or mince.

If the freezer is ready, you can order 1/8, 1/4, or even a half cow (or lamb, or pork).

It’s a great place to support our farmers!!! Check out farms delivering to you here.

💐 Happy Mother’s Day

To all the hard-working mums out there, it’s your day this weekend. Kick up your feet and (try to) relax.

To all the hard-working dads out there, make sure you spoil the mum in your life.

If you want to treat Mum, here are some delicious options:

🏃‍♂️ Relay For Life breaks records

The Sutherland Shire Relay for Life was on last weekend. It is a 24-hour relay held at Don Lucas Reserve to raise funds for the Cancer Council’s research, prevention and support services.

Approximately 1500 people took part, which is the most since before the pandemic.

Darby Maguire, a Cronulla university student, set a new record time of 147.3km. The previous record was set about 10 years ago, at the Sylvania Waters athletics track before the event moved to Don Lucas Reserve.

💃 Dance It Forward Studios

Dance It Forward Studios is a local studio offering dance lessons via private lessons or group classes.

This week, they are running an event called Dance for Sick Kids. It is a chance to make a DIFference through dance for the week of 12 - 18 May. All proceeds raised during the week will go to Ronald McDonald House Charity to help support seriously ill or injured children and their families.

Classes this week from 6.30pm - 7.00pm are by donation. This is a great time to try a dance lesson and help them pay it forward.

Monday through Friday, you can try bachata, cha-cha, rock n’ roll, tango and salsa.

Saturday 17th May will be a Family Disco from 6-8pm ($10 entry for adults and $5 entry for kids)
