🎃 Welcome to our October monthly events-only edition! 🎃 

We’re well into spring now and the weather and events are heating up.

October is definitely one of my favourite months of the year. Being from Canada, I’ll make zero apologies for how much I love diabeetus Halloween, and am thrilled to see it celebrated bigger and better every year here in Australia.

We have some seriously good events happening this month, as we ramp up to the end of the year, and we’ve rounded up the very best!

(And don’t worry — we’ll still send weekly updates with reminders and even more new events!)

Easy Pumpkin Pie

This is not a recipe blog, but I can’t tell you about pumpkin pie and not tell you how to make it. (Don’t worry, your inbox will not be spammed with recipes in the future).

It’s a humble dessert, and I make it for friends and family often, who are always intrigued and delighted when they try it for the first time.

Either make your own pie crust, or buy one from the store. Preheat your oven to 220C. Mix together 1 can of sweetened condensed milk with an equal amount of pumpkin puree (roasted/steamed butternut squash). Whisk in 3 eggs, 1 tsp vanilla, 2 tsp cinnamon, ½ tsp ginger, ¼ tsp ground cloves, ¼ tsp allspice, ¼ tsp ground nutmeg.

Pour the pie mixture into the pie crust and bake at 220C for 15 minutes. After 15 minute, reduce the heat to 175C and continue baking for an additional 30-35 minutes, or until a knife inserted near the centre comes out clean.

Allow the pie to cool on a wire rack for at least 2 hours to set properly. Slice and serve. Can be served chilled or room temperature.
