Welcome to our August monthly events-only edition!

August is here — the final stretch of winter!

While the mornings are crisp, the days are getting brighter, and spring is teasing its return.

But before we swap scarves for swimmers, there’s still plenty of fun to be had!

We’ve gathered the best events happening this month — and as always, we’ll keep you in the loop with weekly updates and last-minute additions.

Let’s get to it.

Janelle Bradley

🐄 Looking for a local farmer?

I don’t really care for politics, but recently it has been announced that American beef will soon be allowed to be sold in Australia.

Not sure what the logistics on that would be (surely it would have to be labelled), but if you are in any way concerned about this, do we have the perfect solution for you!!!

It’s an online platform connecting small family farms and consumers.

And it’s 100% Aussie grown beef (and lamb and pork and chicken etc.)

90% of my family’s beef purchases come from this marketplace (I just might need to redirect the remaining 10% or be more diligent if I want to ensure Aussie beef on my plate).

The meat is of a much higher quality for comparable pricing (or even less depending on how “bulk” your purchase is).

From the main page (here) pop in your postcode to see what farms deliver to you and then go shopping!

Buying direct from the farmer is a bit different than buying from the major supermarkets.

You buy a box (or multiple boxes) of meat, not just a single piece.

You can choose smaller “Try & See” mystery boxes (about 5kg of meat) to get a taste of the deliciousness, or order custom bulk boxes of steaks or mince.

You can also start small and order 1/8 of a cow and get a variety of cuts. Most people start here and work their way up to 1/4, or even half a cow (or lamb, or pork) if they have the freezer space.

It’s a great place to support our farmers (and ensure Aussie)!!! Check out farms delivering to you here.

**Links are affiliate links, and we may get a small commission if you choose to buy anything. This commission does not change the fact that we wholeheartedly support this platform and will support local farmers the best we can. Happy eating!!!!

Apparently, a few websites suggest that August 30th is International Bacon Day. Not sure how legit these things are, but I can definitely get behind that.
